Woodford Folk Festival Wrap Up

The week we spent at Woodford Folk Festival was amazing from the music to the weather to the street theatre that passed us by and the final night's fire

event. I can still feel the heat from the pirate ship being set alight even though I was on top of a hill far away. If I try really hard, I can also hear the beautiful rendition of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah being sung from the stage out through the crowd and into the bush beyond.

The festival and nature live side by side

Thanks to all those who came into the stall and jammed with us on a cigar box guitar.  Check out my Facebook page in the next couple of days for some footage of these jam sessions.

Byron Bay Bluesfest 2013

I've just found out that I'm going to be a stallholder at this year's Byron Bay Bluesfest. The last two years at the Bluesfest have been highlights of my cigar box guitar journey and I know this year will be no different. The line-up is one of the best ever. Get yourself a ticket now and come by and see us at the cigar box guitar stall: http://www.bluesfest.com.au/

Cigar box guitar lessons online

An old friend and seasoned guitar player, Patrick Curley, has recently launched an exciting new resource for the Cigar Box Guitar community. A high school music teacher,

he has developed a course of study for the playing of our unique instrument that is one of a kind. He takes you step-by-step through the development of foundation skills in fingerpicking and the use of the slide. He covers the blues in some detail, as well as presenting a stack of other songs for you to learn.
Patrick is a highly skilled teacher, many of you may have met him at one of our festival stalls, and we are

very excited to be a part of the launch of his site. Check out http://www.learncigarboxguitar.com/ for yourself and while you're there have a look at the competition to win a McTrustry Cigar Box Guitar.

We had an awesome time at the cigar box guitar festival in Boissy sans Avoir in France and I was really honoured to be part of the line-up, which included LeadFoot, The Slim Panatellas, Les Fabuleux Blousy Bone Shakers, and with input from James and Delbarjo. The organisers, TheoMojo and Phillip, put in a lot of time, creativity, and effort to pull off a fabulous event. As they have said, a festival is born. And I intend to get back there again too.

The town of Boissy sans Avoir is beautiful and being just outside Paris really accessible. The festival-goers were really into all the different types of music that the cigar box guitar produces. The

bands covered a wide range of styles, including punk, blues, country, folk, and Scottish jigs. The appreciative audience lapped it up.

The organisers are producing a DVD of the event taken from hours of footage. I’ll put up more info as it becomes available.

I’m now in Copenhagen and I played a gig at the Mojo Blues Bar the other night. I’ll

have some footage up on my video section in the next couple of days. Great little venue. Some professional footage was shot of that

gig too and when it’s up, I’ll let you know.

We said goodbye to Greece about a week ago. I always get the Ios blues when I leave that beautiful place.

Before I left, I played a concert with my mate the Minister for a friend that departed this world too soon. The concert was held in the amphitheatre on Ios. Amazing views and acoustics.

Evie and James at the amphitheatre post-concert

We also played 'wish cialis you were here' at Homer's tomb one windy morning. Had a bit of a Pink Floyd Pompeii like moment.

I also did some recording with Thomas at Mirabello Art – check out my Facebook page for some video. Can't wait to hear what he does with it.

Now in Paris and about to head to Boissy sans Avoir for the Frenc

h cigar box guitar festival.

Two doors down from where we are staying is a cigar shop.

I did some busking around the corner from where we are staying at the George Pompidou centre and popped down to Jim Morrison's final digs and the bar he frequented across the street.

Cheers to Jim in the bar across the street from his Paris house
