Tomorrow is the final pack up day before heading down to Byron Bay for its annual Blues and Roots Festival. The line-up this year is amazing: Tony Joe White, Taj Mahal, Melbourne Street Ska Orchestra, Iggy and the Stooges, Jimmy Cliffs, Chris Smither, Derek Trucks, Robert Plant…the list really is endless. I’ll be ducking out to catch a few acts from time to time. The rest of the time I’ll be at the cigar box guitar stall.
I caught Deniz Tek at the Beetle Bar in Brisbane a couple of Saturday nights ago.Top gig and a great venue. Deniz, guitarist and founding member of legendary Sydney Punk Rock & Roll band Radio Birdman, has a new album out. “Detroit” is an excellent album and has really whet my appetite for more Detroit sounds when Iggy and the Stooges play at Bluesfest. Of course I thrust a CBG into his hands after the gig which he took to like a duck to water. CBGs have that Punk ethos alright. 3 chords. 3 strings! Who cares about frets! 1234!!!

Here are some of the CBGs that will be at Bluesfest with me. Hope to see you at there!
